A-G COLLEGE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
California State University (CSU) A-G Requirements:
The CSU requires a minimum 15-unit pattern of courses for admission as a first-time freshman. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area. A grade of C or better is required for each course you use to meet any subject requirement.
- Social Science - 2 Years
- English - 4 Years
- Math - 3 Years (4 years recommended)
- Laboratory Science - 2 Years (3 years recommended)
- Language Other Than English - 2 Years of the same language (3 years recommended)
- Visual and Performing Arts - 1 Year
- College Preparatory Elective - 1 Year
Students must have have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (2.0-2.49 GPAs may be considered under special circumstances)
SAT or ACT are currently not required for CSU Admissions.

University of California (UC) A-G Requirements:
The UC requires a minimum 15-unit pattern of courses for admission as a first-time freshman. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area. A grade of C or better is required for each course you use to meet any subject requirement. You must complete at least 11 of these courses prior to the beginning of your last year of high school.
- Social Science - 2 Years
- English - 4 Years
- Math - 3 Years (4 years recommended)
- Laboratory Science - 2 Years (3 years recommended)
- Language Other Than English - 2 Years of the same language (3 years recommended)
- Visual and Performing Arts - 1 Year
- College Preparatory Elective - 1 Year
Students must have have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for in state students and 3.4 for out of state students.
Students must submit 4 Personal Insight Question (PIQ) responses and list Awards, Honors, and Extracurricular Experience.
SAT or ACT are currently not required for UC Admissions.

For admissions requirements for private or out-of-state universities, students will need to go to the websites for those universities and look at their freshman admissions requirements.

Students may choose to pursue a trade or vocational program after high school, where they receive training in their career pathway of choice. Students can research different trade programs based on their interest, and can also explore vocational programs that are offered at community colleges (which can be a more affordable option).

Current high school students are able to take classes at local community colleges (most commonly Hartnell College) in order to make progress in college general education requirements or to take courses that interest them. Students are encouraged to reach out to their counselor if they are interested in enrolling in college courses to learn more about the registration process.
