Guidelines for Parents of Student-Athletes

As a parent of a student-athlete at our school, your role is crucial in fostering a positive and supportive environment. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Support the Educational Value: Recognize that athletics are an integral part of the educational experience. The benefits extend beyond the final score of a game.
  • Encourage Effort: Motivate your child to give their best effort in both their athletic and academic endeavors.
  • Cheer Positively: Participate in encouraging cheers that support our student-athletes.
  • Avoid Negative Behavior: Refrain from any form of negative cheering, such as taunting or intimidating opponents, their fans, or officials.
  • Understand the Rules: Learn and respect the rules of the game, and the officials who enforce them.
  • Respect Coaches: Appreciate the role of coaches as educators and support their efforts to guide our youth.
  • Acknowledge Opponents: Show respect to opponents as fellow student-athletes who are striving to do their best.
  • Exhibit Dignity and Civility: Maintain a sense of dignity and civility in all circumstances.

Consequences of Violating Guidelines

Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in:

  • Removal: You may be asked to leave the current and future athletic events involving North Salinas High School.
  • Mandatory Course: Completion of a Sportsmanship course may be required for future attendance at North Salinas High School events.

Note: Decisions regarding violations are at the discretion of site administrators (Coaches, Athletic Director, Administration, Site Designee).

Your actions and attitude can significantly impact your child's view of both academics and athletics, influencing their experience and our community positively.
